Yokohama Ryusei Reveals High School Dance Battle Story

Why it matters

The public interest in Yokohama Ryusei's high school story reflects the ongoing Japanese cultural fascination with the 'origin stories' of popular entertainers. By framing his past through the lens of a manga-like encounter, the broadcast successfully humanized the actor, bridging the gap between his intense on-screen persona and his real-life experiences.

Actor Yokohama Ryusei became a trending topic on October 2, 2026, following his appearance on the NHK morning program Asa-Ichi. During the broadcast, the 30-year-old actor shared a story about his high school days that drew comparisons to a manga plot.

What happened during the broadcast?

The conversation centered on a video message from Iwaya Shogo, a member of the 16-person LDH group THE RAMPAGE, who was a high school classmate of Yokohama. Iwaya revealed that the two became friends after Yokohama approached him in a school hallway during preparations for a cultural festival.

According to Iwaya, Yokohama challenged him to a "dance battle" despite having no prior dance experience. Yokohama confirmed the story, admitting he challenged Iwaya because he had heard there was a talented dancer from LDH at the school. He laughingly described his own performance as passionate but technically lacking.
