Thousands of Imran Khan’s supporters, demanding the release of the former Prime Minister, have ignored roadblocks and tear gas to march toward the gates of Islamabad, which has been under lockdown since late Saturday.

Since Monday, clashes between security forces and Khan's Tehreek-e-Insaf party (PTI) members have resulted in at least four paramilitary rangers and two police officers being killed, with dozens more injured, according to the interior ministry.

In response, the government has invoked Article 245, calling for military assistance if the situation worsens. Police have arrested over 4,000 protesters ahead of the march.

The country’s interior minister, Mohsin Naqvi, has urged opposition supporters to move their protest to Sangjani, a town on the outskirts of Islamabad.

Khan has been imprisoned for over a year and faces more than 150 criminal charges, though his PTI party claims these cases are politically driven, and Khan continues to maintain significant popularity.
