Amazon Kindle Colorsoft: What to Know About the New E-Reader

Why it matters

The release of the Kindle Colorsoft marks a significant shift for Amazon, which has historically focused on monochrome e-ink technology. By integrating color, Amazon is aiming to maintain its market share against competitors who have already adopted color E-Ink displays. The focus on a 'distraction-free' reading experience remains the core marketing pillar for the brand.

Amazon has officially introduced the Kindle Colorsoft, a new addition to its e-reader family that features a paper-like color display. The device is part of a comprehensive update to the Kindle lineup, which the company announced on October 1, 2026, to coincide with the brand's 20th anniversary.

What is the Kindle Colorsoft?

The Kindle Colorsoft is designed to offer a color reading experience that remains easy on the eyes. According to Amazon, the device uses a new display architecture, including a flush-front, edge-to-edge screen that removes the raised border found on previous models. This design change is intended to provide an uninterrupted reading surface.

Why is it trending?

Interest in the device has grown as Amazon overhauls its entire e-reader range. Beyond the addition of color, the company has updated the basic Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite models with thinner, lighter designs. The standard Kindle now includes a flush-front display and an optional aluminum back, features previously reserved for higher-end Signature Editions.

What do we know about pricing and availability?

The new devices are available for purchase or pre-order, though most shipments are scheduled to begin in late October. The pricing for the new models is as follows:

Kindle Colorsoft (16GB): $319.99
Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition (32GB): $319.99
Kindle Paperwhite (16GB): $199.99

Amazon is also launching new accessories alongside the tablets, including a magnetic case with integrated page-turn buttons and a Bluetooth-enabled page-turning remote called the Kindle Click.
